THE ANALYSIS OF USING ENGLISH SONGS TO INCREASE SPEAKING SKILLS OF CLASS VII STUDENTS AT SMPN 11 BENGKULU CITY

The aim of this research is to determine the effecttiveness of using English
songs on the speaking ability and aspects of English skills that can be improved
thrugh the use of songs as a learning method of class VII students at SMPN 11
Bengkulu City. The population of the research was carried out in class VII
students of at SMPN 11 Bengkulu City for the academic year 2024/2025. The
study's sample consists of 292 students divided into 9 classes. The sample of this
reasearch are 1 class which is VII F. The total number of the students is about 33
students. In this study, researchers using quantitative reserach design. The result
of the first questionnaire about pedagogical value of using song shows that 69%
strongly agree, 71 % agree, 25 neutral, and 0% disagree that listening to songs or
using song in class can increase their interest in learning and improve their
English speaking skills. Then, for the second questionnaire about Frequency of
using songs also show positive respond same as the first questionnaire, most
students used English songs that suit to their level, needs, and interest. Based on
result of the interview, the researcher also found that the students’ problems about
speaking and pronunciation could be successfully solved through English songs.
The use of English songs could make the speaking activities more enjoyable and
interesting.
