Abstract
Abstracts are critical components of scientific work, serving as succinct summaries
that enable readers to grasp the core of a study without reading the entire
document. In this context, the present study aims to examine the importance of
effective abstract writing on Journal of English Education and Teaching (JEET)
University of Bengkulu within 10 from Vol. 8, No. 1 (2024) and 10 from Vol. 8, No. 2
(2024). By employing Hyland’s five-move framework, which includes establishing the
research context, stating the research purpose, describing the methodology, presenting
key findings, and discussing implications. As the study design, a qualitative with
descriptive analysis was employed. Drawing on insights from Hyland (2000), the study
uses move analysis to evaluate how each element contributes to a clear and persuasive
abstract. The findings reveal that over 80% of the researchers demonstrated a strong
understanding of the principles of effective abstract writing as defined by Hyland’s
move analysis (M1–M5). Consequently, the study concludes that adherence to Hyland’s
framework is essential for crafting impactful abstracts, recommending further training
and editorial refinement to maintain high standards in academic writing.
