Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of using Project-Based Learning on students'
speaking achievement. This research uses a quantitative pre-experiment method where
only one class is used as the object of research. The population in this study were 8th
grade students of SMPN 7 Bengkulu City. In sampling, the researcher used purposive
sampling method which took all 8A class students at SMPN 7 Bengkulu City as many as
32 students. The research instrument was a speaking test in the form of pre-test and post-
test. The results of the data analysis showed that there was a difference in students'
speaking achievement after receiving treatment using PJBL. Also, paired t-test showed
sig. 0.000 <0.05 which means that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Then, based on the
results of the analysis on the N-Gain Test, it can also be seen that the N-Gain score is 0.57
which is categorized as medium. This means that the use of PJBL is effective and has a
significant impact on students' speaking skills. It is concluded that PJBL can be used as a
teaching and learning method in the junior high school.
