Abstract
This research aims to find out the types of
Speaking errors that occur in the students' Public
Speaking course second semester of the Class of 2023
at Bengkulu University, English Language Education
study program. Using qualitative methods with content
analysis, data was obtained from student speech
transcripts and using a checklist instrument table to
collect data and used color code. Data were analyzed
using Speaking error theory by Clark (1977) and
accuracy error theory by Lucas (2015). This research
used two categories of speech errors, namely fluency
and accuracy, there were 9 categories of errors in
fluency and there were 3 categories in accuracy, a total
of 12 categories are presented and there are at least 256
Speaking errors detected from the 11,189 words
produced by the 25 samplesThe highest error among all
is the grammar error because perhaps most students are
confused with grammar or the rules in English which
are very different from Indonesian, while the lowest is
the stutter error because basically most stutters are
deficiencies in speaking since childhood or are
congenital, which is in the middle between them is the
repeats error and the silent pause error. In conclusion,
the results of this study show which parts usually
become errors in public speaking so that readers can
pay more attention to the parts that have been studied
in order to achieve good and proper public speaking.
