Abstract

The study investigates Eviebot, an artificial intelligence-powered chatbot,
with a focus on whether it can enhance students' oral English. The research
utilized a quasi-experimental as the foundation of the research design involving
60 tenth-grade students at SMA N 8 Kota Bengkulu for the 2024/2025 school
year. With saturation sampling technique selection, The participants were placed
into two groups: the experimental group was participated in speaking with
Eviebot, whilst the control group used conventional teacher-centered pedagogical
methods. Fluency, vocabulary, grammatical accuracy, and pronunciation aspects
were assessed through both pre-tests and post-tests. All the measured aspects were
improved in both groups; however, the experimental group had much greater
improvements, especially in fluency and vocabulary. The Mann-Whitney U test
uncovered statistically considerable advantage in post-test performance (p <
0.05), confirming the hypothesis testing that Eviebot may significantly improve
speaking skills. This concurs with earlier research on artificial intelligence
application in language instruction and demonstrates that chatbots increase
learner autonomy and motivation. The integration of Eviebot into teaching
practice may significantly improve conventional speaking exercises. This
information is useful for policymakers and educators who want to utilize artificial
intelligence technology for language learning. Future studies need to examine
extended effects, psychological impacts, and comparisons to other AI products.
