Abstract
The Merdeka Curriculum emphasizes project-based learning and the integration of digital tools
to improve students' 21st-century skills. However, diagnostic assessments conducted at SMAN
1 Bengkulu revealed that students in class X-1 faced significant difficulties in writing,
particularly in composing report texts with correct structures and coherent ideas. This study
aimed to (1) determine the extent to which Project-Based Learning (PjBL) integrated with
Google Sites improves class X-1 students’ report text writing skills, and (2) identify the factors
contributing to the improvement of their writing skills. This research employed Classroom
Action Research (CAR) following the Kemmis & McTaggart model, involving two cycles. The
subjects were 34 students of class X-1 SMAN 1 Bengkulu. Data were collected through writing
tests, observation checklists, and interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively to
measure learning improvement, while qualitative data were analyzed thematically to identify
contributing factors. The results showed that the implementation of PjBL with Google Sites
significantly improved students’ report writing skills. In Cycle I, 41% of students scored above
the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) of 80, and this increased to 82% in Cycle II. Factors
contributing to this improvement included effective group collaboration, students’ enthusiasm
for digital media, the availability of devices and internet connection, and the teacher’s role as a
facilitator. The integration of PjBL with Google Sites effectively enhances students’ report
writing skills by fostering active learning, collaboration, and digital literacy. It is recommended
that English teachers adopt this approach to improve writing skills and prepare students with
relevant digital competencies. Future research could explore its application to other text genres
or subjects to maximize its pedagogical impact.
