Abstract
This research aimed to analyze the types of students’ Questions. Asking
questions in classroom interaction indicates that students possess critical thinking
skills. The researcher employed a qualitative method, and the data sources were
students in grades XI and XII at Hidayatullah Mubtadi’ien Islamic Boarding School
in Bengkulu city. They were a male class. The researcher focused on observing
students who are active in asking questions during English classroom interactions.
The researcher employed video recordings, field notes, and an observation checklist
in conducting this research. The researcher recorded the process of interaction
among the teacher and students, as well as among students in the classroom. The
technique used for data collection was employed in this research. Some methods
used by researcher in collecting the data. The researcher employed data analysis
techniques based on Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014). It consisted of three
concepts. They were involved in data reduction, data display, drawing, and
verifying conclusions. The researcher identified the types of questions asked by
students in English classroom interactions. There were remembering,
understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating. Students asked the
questions primarily to recognize and analyze the material. Students in the English
Classroom interaction asked two creating questions. Therefore, the teacher should
encourage and motivate students to be active in English classroom interaction,
especially in asking and giving questions. The teacher should also teach a variety
of question types to students and present media to encourage them to develop their
critical thinking.
