AN ANALYSIS OF EDUCATIONAL VALUES IN PUSSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH MOVIE

This research aims to identify and analyze educational character values portrayed in
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, an animation movie produced by DreamWorks
Animation in 2022. The movie follows the adventures of Puss in Boots, who realizes
that he is down to his last life and embarks on a quest for the mythical Wishing Star
along with his companions while encoutering various villain and challenges in their
journey. Using descriptive qualitative method, the researcher analyzed the characters’
dialogues and actions by applying the framework of 26 character education values
established by Kemendikbud (2017). The findings reveal that 22 out of 26 values are
present in the first half of the movie, with the most dominant values being
compassion, confidence, positive thinking, love of peace, and emotional regulation.
While the remaining four values such as fairness, patriotism, thriftiness, and
religiousness were not identified. The absence of these values is attributed to
narrative context, character backgrounds, and thematic focus of the movie. This study
highlights how popular animation media such as movie can serve as a meaningful
tool for value-based education and suggests that educators and teachers may utilize
animation movie to nurture students’ character development in classrooms.
