THE EFFECT OF GUESSING GAME TO IMPROVE YOUNG LEARNERS’ LISTENING SKILL

This study aims to determine the effect of using the Guessing game on young
learners’ listening skill aged 5-7 in a tutoring center in Bengkulu City. This study
used a quantitative research with a true-experimental design with two groups,
namely the experimental group and the control group. In this study, the
experimental group received the Guessing game media, while the control group
received learning with conventional methods. The sample in this study consisted of
14 students from lavender class who were then randomly divided into the
experimental group and the control group. Data collection was carried out by
conducted a pre-test and post-test. The results of statistical showed that the average
score of the experimental group increased from 52.86 to 81.43 in the post-test.
Furthermore, the control group increased from 55.71 to 62.86. In addition, the
significant value in Independent sample t-Test test showed 0.037, which is lower
than 0.05. This significance value indicates a significant difference in young
learners’ listening skills between the experimental group and the control group. The
results of the t-Test indicate that the use of the Guessing game has a positive effect
on the mastery of listening skills of young students aged 5-7 years.
